The Breeders Cup got underway on Friday at Santa Anita Racecourse in California. The action started with the Juvenile Sprint which was won by 15/1 chance Hightail, the first maiden to ever win a Breeders Cup race.

The records continued to be broken on Friday night as Calidoscopio became the oldest horse to win a Breeders Cup race when landing the Marathon. Then, Flotilla became the first European trained horse to win the Juvenile Fillies Turf under Christophe Lemaire.

Aiden O'Brien recorded his first win of the 2012 Breeders' Cup by landing the Juvenile Turf with George Vancouver in Saturday's first race. St Nicholas Abbey missed out on back to back wins in the Turf finishing third behind the Dale Romans trained Little Mike.
