Run for the first time at the 2007 Breeders Cup, the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare sprint is run over six and a half furlongs and for a prize fund of $1 million. The US horses are bred for these sprint races and they are usually so good out of the stalls that if you do not get a good draw then you are beat from the very start and the Europeans are unlikely to mount any sort of challenge for this race.

The winner of this race twelve months ago is a strong favourite in the betting for a repeat performance. Ventura stormed to a four length win in this race in 2008 and has been in fine form since, not finishing out of the top two in four runs and winning twice. Informed Decision looks the biggest threat, having won five times in 2009. Find out why Channel 4 Racing's very own Tom Lee agrees with us in our special Breeders Cup Tips section.
