2009 Breeders Cup Tips

The Breeders Cup will always be one of the hardest televised meetings to successfully tip winners on. It will be a challenge for us to measure up the form of the European horses with that of their American counterparts. Nevertheless,we will be placing our own Breeders Cup Tips right here on this page closer to the time of the meeting so check back here in the future.

2009 Breeders Cup TipsThe difficulty to tip is made harder due to the fact that the venue for the Breeders Cup normally changes each year and often runners do not have course form. This is something that might be slightly different this year with the 2009 Breeders Cup once again taking place at Santa Anita Park. So it is worth checking out those runners who were involved last year who are once again running in 2009 to see how they fared. It is also a meeting that has both turf and dirt races, which again hinders the selection process.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Tips

6.45pm Saturday 7th November - We really like the look of Viscount Nelson in Saturday's first race the Juvenile Turf. Aiden O'Brien's two year old has two wins from four starts and was beaten last time out by Poet's Voice, himself a fancy for the guineas next Spring. He should love the quick ground in Santa Anita and if Ballydoyle get a winner on Friday expect his price to shorten dramatically. You can back Viscount Nelson at 9/2 with totesport.

Breeders Cup Turf Sprint Tips

Diamondrella7.23pm Saturday 7th November - There's a maximum sixteen runners going to post in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint and it's an open betting heat. European interest comes in the shape of Strike the Deal for Jeremy Noseda who has an eyecatching jockey booking in the shape of Kieran Fallon. Lord Shanakill drops down in trip for new US based trainer Richard Mandella but it is Diamondrella that really catches the eye. The five year old mare beat Forever Together last time out in the First Lady Stakes and has a great draw in stall nine for this one. You can back Diamondrella at 6/1 with Ladbrokes.

Breeders Cup Sprint Tips

8.10pm Saturday 7th November - Breeders Cup Sprint favourite Zensational looks the one to beat if the betting is anything to go by, but it's second favourite Gayego we fancy to take the race for Godolphin. The course and distance winner has Breeders Cup legend Garrett Gomez onboard and he'll know exactly how to get the best out of the horse. Front runner Zensational will likely come out of the gates fast but could well have a target on his back for the likes of Gayego to shoot at in a fast finish. You can back Gayego to win at 11/4 with Paddy Power.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Tips

8.49pm Saturday 7th November - The second tip from the Morning Line presenter Tom Lee is a European raider with a big price. Radiohead is stepping up massively in trip here to a mile and a half and Tom's sure that the trip won't be a problem and that he'll take to the synthetic surface. In answer to the question of whether the two year old will stay Tom commented "maybe, but there was a healthy dollop of encouragement in the way he suddenly grabbed the bit and charged at Awzaan in the Middle Park Stakes. The draw isn't the best but the 20/1 available to back him with Ladbrokes looks huge, especially considering that Awzaan is now third favourite with some firms for next year's 2,000 Guineas."

Breeders Cup Mile Tips

Goldikova9.28pm Saturday 7th November - It's not an original pick in the Breeders Cup Mile but we just can't get away from Goldikova. This marvellous horse will guarantee you a heart in mouth moment but has the turn of foot to destroy this field just like she did winning this twelve months ago. Main dangers come from the improved Delegator and consistent Zacinto who both warrant their second and third favourtism. The draw isn't great for the jolly coming out of stall twelve but the hope is she'll latch onto Gladiatorus who'll force his way into a decent position from the break. If she's handy coming off the turn there's not a horse that will beat her in this field. You can back Goldikova at 6/4 with Bet365.

Breeders Cup Dirt Mile Tips

10.12pm Saturday 7th November - The Aiden O'Brien trained Mastercraftsman is a short priced favourite for the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile but we prefer the chances of American trained horses on the Pro-Ride surface for this one. The horse that fits the bill on this basis is second favourite Bullsbay. There have been encouraging reports from the racetrack in the build up this week for the five year old, who won the Whitney Handicap back in August. If Mastercraftsman runs anywhere near to best form he'll take some beating but looks a tad short in the betting. You can back Bullsbay at 5/1 with Paddy Power.

Breeders Cup Turf Tips

Conduit10.57pm Saturday 7th November - Conduit is many people's banker for the 2009 Breeders Cup meeting, including our very own Tom Lee. The main threats in the betting appear to be from stablemate Spanish Moon who is reported to be looking in fine form in the lead up to the race, plus Arc fifth place Da Re Mi trained by John Gosden. However, the favourite will be the one to beat as Tom Lee reiterates - "He looked a monster when he won the King George in the summer and has enjoyed a nice break before running a belter to get within two and a half lengths of Sea The Stars in the Arc. Back him at 5/4 with Bet365 to cap off another fine season with a win here."

Breeders Cup Classic Tips

11.45pm Saturday 7th November - The final race of the 2009 Breeders Cup meeting and the last of Tom Lee's tips for the meeting. All the talk has been dominated by market leaders Rip Van Winkle and American star filly Zenyatta but Tom reckons there's some value to be had further down the betting. "There's a big danger lurking in this field in the shape of Gio Ponti and the locals could have the last laugh with Christophe Clement's four year old at a standount 16/1 with Ladbrokes. Winner of the Man O'War Stakes and Arlington Million in 2009 we'll forgive him his last run and the price makes plenty of appeal each-way."

Friday Night's Tips Were...

Breeders Cup Marathon Tips

Father Time8.35pm Friday 6th November - The Breeders Cup meeting kicks off with the Marathon, run over a mile and a half it's a race that is dominated by the Europeans. Last years winner Mastery is favourite for a repeat victory for Frankie Dettori but it's the Henry Cecil trained Father Time who has recieved plenty of support in the betting and would be our fancy. He'll have to reverse the St Leger form from September but all the signals suggest the time is right to succeed. You can back Father Time at 100/30 with Bet365.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Tips

Lillie Langtry9.08pm Friday 6th November - Trainer Aiden O'Brien has returned from the Breeders Cup empty handed for too many years to mention so has adopted a different medication policy for this years meeting. Europeans can take advantage of different rules in the states where the diuretic lasix is permitted for horses. Supposed to keep the horses blood pressure down, O'Brien has yet to saddle a winner when using lasix so this year he's trying his luck without the drug. Lillie Langtry is his first runner of the meeting and a win for her here could change the betting for the whole Breeders Cup. You can back favourite Lillie Langtry at 11/4 with totesport.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Tips

Negligee9.45pm Friday 6th November - The Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies is run on the Pro-Ride surface and has no European interest. It's an open looking betting heat with Blind Luck the market leader for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The pair of Connie and Michael and Negligee look like being the main opposition and we'd plumb for the latter who looks to have the pick of the draw. First and second place in this race last year came out of a high draw which is good news for John Terranova II's filly who has been drawn in stall ten. You can bet on Negligee at odds of 5/1 with William Hill.

Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf Tips

Forever Together10.23pm Friday 6th November - Last years winner of the Filly and Mare Turf Forever Together goes again in 2009 and will be running virtually the same line coming out of stall two. Jonathan Sheppard's mare hasn't finished out of the top three since her win here twelve months ago and looks better placed to take the spoils than favourite Midday, who has had a busy summer campaign for trainer Henry Cecil. You can back Forever Together to double up on her 2008 win at 7/2 with Ladbrokes.

Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Tips

11.02pm Friday 6th November - Tom Lee has dipped his toe into the tipping water for us in the Filly and Mare Sprint. The Channel 4 Racing presenter fancies the American trained Informed Decision to take the beating on the Pro-Ride surface in this seven furlong contest. "Jonathan Sheppard's four year old filly has won six of her last seven races and warmed up for this winning a Grade 2 at Keeneland on the Polytrack. She's stepping back up in trip here and is the value bet against the short priced jolly Ventura." You can back Informed Decision at 9/4 with bookmaker Victor Chandler.

Breeders Cup Ladies Classic Tips

Rainbow View11.45pm Friday 6th November - John Gosden enjoyed a terrific Breeders Cup at Santa Anita twelve months ago and he saddles Rainbow View in the 2009 renewal of the Ladies Classic. Big things were expected of this fillly this season as she swept all before her as a two year old. A fifth place finish in the 1,000 Guineas when an odds on favourite led to a disappointing summer, but things seem to have picked up after she won the Matron Stakes two runs ago. She finished second last time out in Canada and on her day has the class to beat this field. You can back Rainbow View at 13/2 with VC Bet
