The Breeders Cup Turf Sprint is a new race for the Breeders Cup two day meeting having only been introduced to the schedule in 2008. It is for 3-year-olds and above and will be run over 6 ½ furlongs on the turf. It will be quite unique for American horses with it being run on the slightly downhill undulating parcel of turf, which dog legs and briefly crosses the main track before entering the final two furlongs. The race carries prize money of $1m dollars and the field will be restricted to 14 runners.

Another Breeders Cup race with a significant European interest, with Lord Shanakill and Cannonball lining up. Now trained by Richard Mandella, Lord Shanakill was formally under the guidance of Alan Jarvis in England. Cannonball on the other hand is one of a string of American runners who Wesley Ward brought over to Royal Ascot in the summer, finishing second in the Golden Jubilee Stakes. California Flag looks likely to go off favourite for trainer Brian Koriner.
