Breeders Cup Monmouth Park 2007

The Monmouth Park racetrack is known as the Resort of Racing steeped in history of thoroughbred racing beside. Monmouth Park is the location for the 2007 Breeders Cup which shall be run over two days and has eleven Breeders Cup races for record prize money.

The main track is a 100-foot-wide, one-mile oval with 12 inches of aggregate sand drainage and 12 inches of crushed stone screenings topped off by a 4-inch cushion of sand and topsoil. The topsoil is a mixture of silt, clay and loam.

Each 1/8 of a mile, or "furlong" originally a "furrow long" or the length of a ploughed field, is marked off by a green and white pole located along the inside rail. Each ¼ mile is noted by a red and white pole, while 1/16 mile is designated by a black and white pole. Thus, the "quarter pole" is the red and white pole located on the "far turn," ¼ mile from the finish line.

BY CAR:
Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 105, to Route 36 East. Follow signs to Monmouth Park. The NJ Turnpike connects with the Parkway at Woodbridge interchange, Exit 11. From the south and west, use the NJ Turnpike to Exit 7A to I-195 east to the Garden State Parkway north, or Route 18 north to exit 13B. From Long Island or Brooklyn, take the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and Staten Island Expressway to the Outerbridge Crossing, to the Garden State Parkway south to Exit 105.
