2009 Breeders Cup Turf Runners

Spanish MoonThe Breeders Cup Turf is the penultimate race on the Breeders Cup schedule and is another of the top races that features a European trained horse at the head of the betting. Last years winner Conduit comes back to Santa Anita Park in 2009 having had a solid if not spectacular season. European runners Spanish Moon and Dar Re Mi look like being the main dangers to Conduit's defence of the title with the American trained Presious Passion also not without support in the Breeders Cup Turf betting.

Allegre

The outsider of the field but with three wins out of five to its name in a much lower class and has it all to do here.

Conduit

Winner of this race last year and favourite for a repeat. Fine win in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in July and a good run placing fourth in the Arc last time out. The one to beat again.

Monzante

Previously trained in the UK by Roger Charlton and now trained Stateside, had two runs since almost a years lay-off and would be a big surprise if he pulled up any trees here.

Presious Passion

Six year old with nine wins to his name is currently in the form of his life having won here three weeks ago in a Grade 1 contest. Obvious chances here.

Red Rocks

Brian Meehan's globetrotter won this race in 2006 and followed that up with a third place finish in the race a year later. Last years effort suggested time is catching up with the six year old having finished second last.

Spanish Moon

Sir Michael Stoute's second runner in the race comes here off the back of two wins in the Prix Foy and Prix De Saint Cloud in France. Lightly campaigned in 2009 looks likely to give the most problems to his more fancied stablemate.

Telling

Only one win for this five year old and that came two runs ago in a Grade 1 contest at Saratoga. The form suggests that others will be too good for Steve Hobby's horse.

Dar Re Mi

John Gosden will be looking to follow up on his fantastic meeting here in last years Breeders Cup. Having had two winners twelve months ago Dar Re Mi reperesents his best chances in 2009, finishing fifth in the Arc and beating Oaks winner Sariska in the Yorkshire version back in August.
